📋 The short version

Nick LaLota, a Republican first elected in 2022, represents eastern Long Island and is on the November 3, 2026 ballot for a third term. On labor and health care he has joined Democrats: he signed the discharge petitions that forced House votes on the Protect America's Workforce Act (November 2025) and the Faster Labor Contracts Act (May 2026), and he voted for a three-year extension of the enhanced ACA subsidies (January 2026). In May 2025 he said he would vote against his party's tax bill because its SALT cap was too low, then voted for it after the cap was set at $40,000. ⚖️ In fairness: their side

LaLota says he backed the ACA extension because, although the law is “deeply flawed,” it helps “the nearly 50,000 constituents who rely on” the credits and gives momentum to Senate talks on reforms; his office called their expiration “a sudden tax hike for hard-working Americans.” On labor he said, “I’m proud to stand with America’s workers.” On SALT he said he “fought tooth and nail” for the $40,000 cap, noting that some on the right called it a “blue state bailout.”
